I played with the JP version for close to 90 hours per year ago and buy PSO2 Meseta could not see the appeal. You spend most of your time oneshotting braindead-easy mobs in free areas. Then you sit around awaiting crisis quests to spawn which are again braindead simple because everyone's equipment is so absurdly strong that you'll hardly be able to hit anything. They hurry through at lightspeed, melting anything in their own way. SEGA added some EQs where you're forced to pilot a mecha that does not really do a great deal of damage simply so new Phantasy Star Online 2 gamers might find a chance at hitting stuff. There are many distinct types of quests with obscure names like buster quests, showcased quests etc and you'll have to spend ages on wikis hoping to determine which of these are worth doing. Most of them are amazingly dull, the only ones worth doing would be those with actual rewards.
Having to discover abilities to be learnt by disks is a imo that is mechanic that is pretty dumb and the hotbar system is dreadful. I really don't get why I can not just have multiple hotbars instead of having to scroll through subpalettes and palettes and shit, onscreen simultaneously. It is a UI nightmare which doesn't appeal to anyone. The targeting system sucks. The celebration UI is minuscule and considerably can't be customized by you. Can't hover fans over icons to tell what they do. No punishment for dying because you can respawn like nothing happened. Conversation occurs in the lobby because is so simple that you barely have to say anything.
The gearing system is convoluted and you have to spend ages combing through youtube movies and wikis to comprehend it. The fact that there are new-type and old-type weapons with two distinct strategies to enhance (grind) them is foolish. Caps and affixes are unintuitive unless you've got a manual. Collection files are pretty boring since they just boil down to"spam more EQs" that is probably what you're already doing. There's too much loot in Phantasy Star Online 2. Each time you kill a boss that they burst like a pinata and shed a great deal of shit that is useless. As a newcomer it's tough to understand what's well worth picking up and what's not. I guess you can seller them to an NPC?
Level cap unlock quests are extremely annoying. Why do I need to get a 13* +35 weapon to level Lv75? It's only. Who finds these fun? Most quests (customer orders) are just kill or bring quests. There are so many of them, but they are all incredibly boring. Some client orders are extremely annoying to do. The ones especially. Most of them ask you to kill enemy but everything you know is that area that enemy is located in. Which means you have to run around for ages in a large shitty map trying to find the mob you are supposed to kill, because the wiki does not tell you just where they spawn. Like the dinosaurs are even hard to kill so it becomes a chore, it's not.
The story is totally terrible but at least it just is made up of cutscenes now and I don't think it's necessary to clear to progress (looking at you FFXIV). Having to pay for skill tree foliage stinks. I know someone is going to answer to the with"only wait for a free reset lol" but no I am not going to wait for SEGA to launch a balance patch just so I can reset my skill tree, that is fucking stupid. When that is going to take place, I don't know. As a beginner you would better go up look assembles for your course ASAP until you fuck your skill tree. Mags are dumb too because they're only stat-sticks that are supposed to cheap Phantasy Star Online 2 Meseta boost cash shop revenue since you can not reset your Mag's stats.
